You’re Not Alone, and You Have Options

Surgery is rarely the first option—and at Ironworks, it is usually the last. We prioritize conservative treatments such as injections, physical therapy, shoe modifications, and time to allow the body an opportunity to heal naturally. When structural damage or chronic pain persists despite these efforts, foot and ankle surgery can provide lasting relief and restore quality of life.

Many foot and ankle procedures can be performed conveniently in the office, allowing patients to receive treatment in a comfortable and familiar setting. When surgery is necessary, Dr. Leshikar performs procedures in an ambulatory surgery center, helping patients avoid the complexity of a hospital setting.

Whenever possible, minimally invasive techniques are used to achieve excellent outcomes with smaller incisions, less discomfort, reduced scarring, and a quicker return to the activities and lifestyle you enjoy.

Frequently Asked Questions

It depends entirely on the procedure. Minor soft-tissue surgery may have you back in a regular shoe in 2–3 weeks, while bony reconstruction or fusion procedures can require 6–12 weeks in a boot or cast.

Not always. Many foot and ankle surgeries are performed under regional (ankle block) or local anesthesia with light sedation.

Depending on the procedure, surgery is performed either at a local ambulatory surgery center or at a partnering hospital where our surgeons hold privileges. Most procedures are outpatient, you go home the same day.

No driving while you’re in a cast or boot on your right foot, on narcotic pain medication, or weight-bearing restricted. Most patients who had surgery on the right foot can’t drive for 4–8 weeks; left-foot surgery patients typically return to driving much sooner if they drive an automatic.

You probably don’t, at least not yet. We exhaust every conservative treatment first and only recommend surgery when it offers a clear benefit over continued non-surgical care.
