You’re Not Alone, and You Have Options

Corns and calluses are easy to remove safely, and with the right follow-up, we can often prevent them from coming back.

Corns and calluses are the body’s response to friction and pressure. They’re usually harmless in healthy adults, but painful, unsightly, and sometimes a warning sign of deeper biomechanical problems. In diabetics, they can develop into ulcers if left untreated.

How we treat it

Professional debridement (painless shaving)

Identifying and correcting the underlying cause, often a bony prominence or improper footwear

Custom orthotics or padding to offload pressure points

Diabetic foot check if applicable

Never try to cut corns or calluses at home if you have diabetes, circulation problems, or take blood thinners.

Frequently Asked Questions

Calluses are broad areas of thick skin, usually on weight-bearing surfaces. Corns are smaller, concentrated areas of thickened skin, often with a central core, typically on or between toes.

Not usually, as long as the underlying friction or pressure continues, the body will keep producing protective thick skin. Successful treatment requires both removing the thickened skin and addressing whatever’s causing it (shoe fit, bony prominence, biomechanics).

Generally not recommended. Acid-based corn removers can damage surrounding healthy skin and cause serious problems for diabetics or patients with poor circulation.

Depends on how fast they build up. Some patients do well with trimming every 2–3 months; others need monthly visits.

Often yes. They develop where pressure is abnormally concentrated, pointing to a bony prominence, abnormal biomechanics, or poor shoe fit.
