Venous stasis ulcers are slow-healing wounds that develop on the lower legs when the veins can’t pump blood back up to the heart efficiently. Blood pools, pressure builds, and eventually the skin breaks down. They’re extremely common in older adults and in people with a history of DVT, varicose veins, or leg swelling.

The cornerstone of treatment is compression therapy. Without compression, venous ulcers rarely heal. With the right compression wraps, advanced dressings, and vein-focused care, most venous ulcers close within 12–16 weeks.

What to Expect at Your First Visit

Because venous ulcers are treated very differently from arterial ulcers, the first visit starts with a careful diagnosis before any compression is applied.

Expect 60 to 75 minutes for the first visit. Wear loose pants that can be rolled up above the knee.

There’s an adjustment period, the leg feels firmly wrapped, and activity feels different for the first few days. Most patients acclimate quickly and report the wraps feel supportive rather than restrictive.

Most multi-layer wraps need to stay dry between weekly changes. We’ll show you how to protect the leg during showers, and we can adjust the dressing schedule if keeping it dry is a challenge.
